Pianist, composer and bandleader, Yves Theiler has qualifications as a jazz musician, composer and music pedagogue. Yves Theiler was born on December 23rd, 1987 in Zurich (Switzerland), the town in which he grows, develops and rises from the ranks. Yves’ first instrument was a piano received as a gift at the age of 7. By his own account his efforts on the instrument yielded lots of success, making him to feel impelled to start a music career that proved to bring continuous achievements. The successful start of his career brought him furthermore. At just 16 years old, he begins studying at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), Department of Music, obtaining a Bachelor and by the time he was 22 he achieves, as
well, a Master of Artsin Music at the same university. Theiler studied with jazz piano player Chris Wiesendanger for 5 years and spent one semester under the wing of Richie Beirach.

His studies continued with a Master of Arts in Music Performance at the Jazz Faculty of Lucerne where he finished the master of arts in jazz performance after one year. Inspired and taught by tutors such as Chris Wiesendanger, Richie Beirach, Nat Su he studied all together in three different faculties, such as the ZHdK, the Felix Mendelssohn Hochschule zu Leipzig and the HSLU.

Either with intellect, either with instinct either with both, Yves Theiler juggles an array of influences that ran from jazz – groove and rhythm tradition, improvised music and eastern folkloric themes into modern and full music that spans many styles, but like his own moods his music always speaks in sharp contrasts that makes you to say immediately “I am captivated by jazz”.

Original and full composer, Theiler can pass as an innovative musician in jazz, being able to interchange, to combine, to melt and to mix to bring together contrasting moods, textures, styles by switching between emphasis on melody, harmony, and rhythm and on performativity gestures. He plays in several groups, such as Yves Theiler Trio, DUO Omri Ziegele & Yves Theiler, Things To Sounds, Where’s Africa with Efrat Alony, Matthias Tschopp Quartet, Raetus Flisch Compo6, Valeria Zangger & Yves Theiler, Zwerg Rosa, Yum Yum Yum, Mario Schenker Quartet and as well as a solo performer.
